Sean Stewart is an explosive finisher
New Duke commitment, Sean Stewart, from Windermere, Fla., is one of the most ferocious athletes in 2023.
The Duke basketball recruiting haul for the class of 2022 has been well-documented. Jon Scheyer and his crew have locked up the No. 1 recruiting class in the nation.
So far, the charismatic coach-in-waiting has secured an elite junior in Caleb Foster. And he added another four-star forward in Sean Stewart, who announced his intentions last week to play in Durham as well, giving Duke another in the class of 2023.
The 6-foot-8, athletic combo-forward from Windermere High School on the outskirts of Orlando is well regarded as one of the more explosive finishers in the United States. Cut from the same cloth as former Duke players Lance Thomas, Javin DeLaurier and Antonio Lang, the Florida prospect runs the floor quickly, has a live, active body and is a quick-twitched athlete on the glass.
He’ll definitely thrive in the high octane transition game where he can make plays in space.
Stewart has been to many Duke games in his life and considered it his dream school. He’s also a tremendous student who wants a Duke degree.
His coach, Mark Griseck, raved about him to Bull City Hoops’ Tyler Simpson.
“A phenomenal athlete,” Griseck said. “He can play and guard multiple positions. Scores in variety of ways. Excellent in transition whether leading the break or finishing it. Elite shot blocker especially from the weak side. Will need to continue to develop consistency on his three-point shot, but very solid from 15 to 18 feet.”
Stewart is averaging 21.1 points, 11.6 rebounds and over four blocks per game for Windermere.
