Scouting Mark Mitchell
Bull City Hoops spoke with future teammates, a former coach and one our own to get insight on what the Blue Devils are getting in Mark Mitchell.
Jon Scheyer and Duke have added an impressive piece to its already strong class of 2022 haul, with the addition of five-star wing Mark Mitchell.
What type of player are the Blue Devils getting, though? We turned to his former coach, Rick Zych, Bull City Hoops recruiting analyst Tyler Simpson, and two future teammates, Kyle Filipowski and Jaden Schutt, to get their thoughts about the newest member of The Brotherhood.
Coach Rick Zych (Bishop Miege - Mitchell’s former coach)
“Active three who can play multiple positions. Positionless basketball player. Long and athletic wing who attacks the basket aggressively. Improving three point shooter that will only get better with time. Has the perfect body for a 6'8"-6'9" 3-man in college. Will transition well to the college level with his length on the defensive end. High basketball IQ. Makes everyone on the team better around him.
Tyler Simpson (Bull City Hoops Recruiting Analyst)
“Mitchell is an intriguing wing prospect, who has the makings of being an elite defender. Currently at 6’8”, his length causes problems for opposing guards and wings, really disrupting the passing lanes. Over the last year his game has taken a step forward in the right direction, becoming more aggressive on the offensive end and expanding his offensive arsenal and improving from the three point line. Mitchell has added more strength which has helped him on both sides of the ball. He's a versatile player in all aspects of his game. Mitchell attacks well at all three levels. Strong and willing rebounder. A willing passer who really sees the court well and finds the open man.”
Kyle Filipowski (Duke signee class of 2022)
“I got to know Mark on our visit together in June and he’s a great person and player. I think he’d fit in perfectly with myself and the rest of the guys at Duke.
“He’s a very versatile guy who has great IQ and makes the right reads. Is a great playmaker and can finish at the rim or shoot the 3 well.”
Jaden Schutt (Duke signee class of 2022)
“I haven’t seen him live or played with him. He was UAA, but he was out with an injury. But from videos he looks like a very talented player.”
