Recruiting Roundup
Now that the season is over, Bull City Hoops has lots of updates to share in regards to the class of 2023.
Now that the college basketball season is over, and Kansas cut down the nets in New Orleans, the next season of hoops begins. The month of April is the unofficial kickoff of the recruiting season.Â
This is the month where the coaches get out on the road and watch their targets and potential targets on the Nike, Adidas and Under Armor circuits.
New head coach Jon Scheyer has a head start on the junior class with three big-timers already on board the train to Durham with Caleb Foster, Sean Stewart and Jared McCain.Â
Foster, a five-star point guard, is known for his natural floor leader qualities and is a pure pass-first guard. The 6-foot-5 junior also has a very strong jumper and length to be disruptive in the passing lanes.Â
Stewart, a 6-foot-8 forward, is loved for his explosive athleticism, speed and ferocity in transition. He’s been compared to a young Javin DeLaurier.Â
McCain, the most recent commit, is a California native with a tremendous ability to score and be a playmaker. The 6-foot-4 combo guard is also known for having a tremendous NIL value with his innovative presence on social media.Â
Both McCain and Foster are five-star prospects while Stewart is a high level four star.Â
So to say Scheyer already has a leg up on the junior class is an understatement.Â
The big news that came out this week is the pending decision of international star Tyrese Proctor from Australia. The rangy guard will make his decision today at 6 p.m. ET.Â
The highly regarded scoring guard will decide between Arizona, Duke and the G-League. Our best Duke sources seem quietly optimistic and our pulse from Arizona sources aren’t as optimistic but feel like they’re in this thing at the time that this article was published.Â
In other recruiting related news, Mackenzie Mgbako has officially released list of his final four schools. Duke, as we expected, made the cut, along with Memphis, Ohio State and Kentucky.Â
Duke fans have good reason to feel strong in their odds of landing Mgbako, the top rated wing forward in the country.Â
He will announce his decision Friday at 9 p.m. ET.
