Jaden Schutt talks game, future teammates & more
Jaden Schutt will be arriving in Durham in just a matter of months. So Bull City Hoops sat down with him to talk Duke, Jon Scheyer and future classmates.
Jon Scheyer has been the hottest coach in the country over the last year when it comes to recruiting. Duke’s new head coach has hauled in 11 players between the classes of 2022 and 2023. And he’s done it in just fewer than 11 months.
It’s pretty extraordinary when you really sit back and think about it.
Incoming freshman Jaden Schutt was the third player of the bunch to commit to the Blue Devils back in September of 2021. He’s also a guy that sometimes gets overshadowed by his highly ranked classmates.
But don’t let that get in the way of understanding how talented of a prospect Schutt really is and what he’s capable of bringing to the table. He’s the one true guard in the class, and he can get points in bunches.
It’s been a few months since we last offered an update on the future Blue Devil. So, Bull City Hoops reached out to Schutt to learn a little more about him, his thoughts on Jon Scheyer, his most underrated future classmate, and what he sees in the class of 2023.

Which recruit is better than anyone thinks? And why?
“Christian Reeves. He has a lot of upside and from watching clips of him, his ranking doesn’t seem to match his play. Definitely underrated.”
What is something about you that not many people know?
“I love reading and playing board games.”
Thoughts on the class of 2023 right behind you? Who have you seen, and what are your thoughts?
“Scheyer has recruited a very talented 23 class and I’ve had the opportunity to play against Caleb Foster and I’ve seen Sean Stewart and Jared McCain.”
What are your thoughts on each of them?
“Caleb Foster is a smart guard who has a ton of talent at the PG position. Sean Stewart is an athletic wing who plays really hard. Jared McCain is also a nice guard who can really shoot it and create for his teammates. I’m a fan of all of their games. They can all really play.”
What’s your favorite go-to move when you need a bucket?
“I love to get to a step back.”
Talk to us about Jon Scheyer. What does he do so well to lock up all of these recruits? Is there some personality trait that stands out with him?
“When being recruited by Scheyer, it didn’t feel like a recruitment. He’s an easy guy to talk to and he’s very honest and straight forward. That is what I appreciated about him when getting to know him.”
