Future Star: Trentyn Flowers
Bull City Hoops introduces a big-time, elite prospect in the 10th grade that is already a national target and Duke recruit.
Word gets out early when elite basketball prospects get discovered these days. Between social media, hoop mix types, tons of basketball scouts and reporters across the national landscape, the buzz generally starts early.
Trentyn Flowers is already a national level recruit. The state schools are on him. The regional programs. The power five conferences. The bluebloods. Everyone.
The 6-foot-8 point guard at Huntington Prep (West Virginia) has already established his name as one of the best prospects in the class of 2024.
That’s a sophomore for those of you trying to calculate the year in your head.
Flowers spoke candidly with Bull City Hoops.
“It feels really great,” he said about the attention he’s received from college coaches already. “I feel like my dad and I have put in the work and we’re starting to see it pay off. I feel like I’ve worked hard and I deserve this.”
His work, along with his natural gifts at his size have paid dividends. He holds 17 offers at this point despite only being a mere 10th-grader.
Xavier was the first school to offer him over a year ago. And now he counts them off feverishly. Georgia, Georgia Tech, USC, Kansas, Memphis, Auburn, Cincinnati, LSU, Iona, Ole Miss, Florida, Georgetown, Tennessee and Oklahoma State have also made an offer to Flowers as well.
“They’ve always been my dream school ever since I was young. The Brotherhood is huge.” - Trentyn Flowers
Duke has been in contact. North Carolina is working on scheduling a visit. Stanford, Louisville, Texas, West Virginia and many others are ramping up their communication.
“My dad talks to so many coaches,” Flowers said over his cellphone to BCH.
Nolan Smith has been the point man for the Blue Devils.
“My dad has been talking to Coach Nolan. They are just saying that they like how I play and how versatile I am as a guy who can do everything.”
Flowers didn’t mince words when it came to asking how he felt about the ACC and national powerhouse program.
“I love Duke,” he stated. “They’ve always been my dream school ever since I was young. The Brotherhood is huge.”
Flowers who can pass, handle, shoot and make plays for others, sees the success that Duke has had with long, rangy positionless players.
“Duke has had a lot of guys (my size) that have done well there. Jayson Tatum, Paolo Banchero; guys like that that can play all over. Even going back to guys like Grant Hill,” he said.
Flowers says that he’s trying to work on a potential visit to Durham.
“Hopefully soon,” he said when asked about a visit. “But definitely by the summer once things calm down. We have the season going on and all.”
Wow! Nolan gave him some great comparisons of similar former players. Hard for any program to top those. I always take the "dream school" comment with a grain of salt but he sounds sincere.
