CTC recruit visitor list
Duke is currently scheduled to host three recruits for its annual Countdown to Craziness.
Duke’s annual Countdown to Craziness is just a few days away, giving Blue Devil fans their first opportunity to step inside Cameron Indoor Stadium since early 2020.
As usual, the event will be highlighted by a scrimmage giving fans a look at the 2021-22 squad, including a first glance at highly touted freshmen Paolo Banchero and Trevor Keels as well as Jaylen Blakes. Duke fans will also get their first view of graduate transfers Theo John and Bates Jones.
Beyond the festivities and scrimmage, CTC typically represents a big visit weekend.
While Friday’s event is not expected to have a huge contingency of recruits, there will be a very important one on hand.
Class of 2022 five-star small forward Mark Mitchell will be in Durham for his official visit. The trip represents the conclusion of a nearly month long jaunt to his four finalists: UCLA (Sept. 19), Kansas (Oct. 1), Missouri (Oct. 8) and now Duke.
The weekend visit will be critical for Jon Scheyer and the rest of the Duke staff, as Mitchell closes in on his decision.
Luckily for the Blue Devils, two very important commitments in the class will join Mitchell in Durham for CTC: Dereck Lively II and Dariq Whitehead.
Lively and Whitehead have been in regular contact with Mitchell, so their presence will be a bonus in the attempt to close on the nation’s No. 16 rated player according to the 247Sports composite.
It's a small contingency of recruits headed to Durham on Saturday - two of which are committed - but it's a very, very important one. Scheyer missed on his first target this week with JJ Starling, so you can bet he and the staff will be extra motivated this weekend with Mark Mitchell coming to town.
Lively and Whitehead's presence will be important and can't be understated in the level of impact they can have on Mitchell.
I woke up this morning with a text saying that Mitchell loved CTC and was texting friends and family.
