Dear Bull City Hoops family:
Last September we decided we were not ready to close our reporter pads and instead launched Bull City Hoops. It was a plan that in some ways had been in the works for several years.
As we prepared to launch, we were overwhelmed by the support our readers from over the years showed us. When we finally went live on Sept. 16, 2021, we were humbled by all of the Duke fans who followed us to our new platform. One right after another you signed up and pledged your support.
It was reaffirming for us that we had been bringing you quality reporting since we began covering Duke basketball as a tandem. The response let us know we were doing the right thing by launching Bull City Hoops.
Today, we are announcing that it is time for Bull City Hoops to close up shop. After many conversations and self reflection, we have decided that we can no longer infuse the amount of passion, energy or time into the site necessary to provide you, our readers, with the quality and value you deserve and have come to expect over the last 15 years (including our time together at Rivals).
If you are a paying subscriber, you will be refunded a prorated amount based on your subscription level — annual or monthly. Refunds will be added directly to your card and you will no longer be billed for your subscription.
We thank you for your support and business, but most importantly, we thank you for trusting us as a source for your Duke basketball information for so many years.
Thank you and Go Duke!
Brian McLawhorn & Clint Jackson
Notes from the publishers
It has truly been an amazing ride over these last 20+ years.
As a journalist, I always recognized the fact I was writing for Duke fans. I had to always remember that, but I also tried to never forget my job as a reporter. For as long as I was writing specifically for a Duke fan site, I knew my work had to have a certain spin, but I also took pride in calling things as I saw them and trying my best to be consistent and fair in how I reported — maintaining the journalistic integrity my college professors implored us students to observe as professionals. I believe I accomplished that goal, and for that I am proud.
I am forever grateful for all the people who helped make my dream of covering Duke come true. I am appreciative for the support you, our readers, have shown since day one. I was fortunate to cover three Final Fours, two national titles and many, many Duke greats. I absolutely loved my time working in this industry and am so thankful for the experience.
Lastly, I am thankful to have had Clint Jackson on this ride with me — for 13 of these years, in fact. We began as colleagues and end this journey as close friends. There’s no one I would have rather had working alongside me. I will cherish my time in the industry forever.

I can’t begin to express my gratitude for being able to do what I love for over 20 years as a Duke basketball recruiting analyst and scout. Over 20 years is a long time. And I was fortunate enough to have covered some Duke greats, from Jayson Tatum and Zion Williamson to JJ Redick and Jay Williams.
Working in Duke media and with Rivals and Bull City Hoops was a blessing and one that helped me feed my family while doing something that I absolutely loved. I look back on all of the events that I covered in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, New Jersey, Maryland, Delaware, Colorado, DC, Pennsylvania and Texas and I was able to see and evaluate so many Duke prospects and players.
I loved this and will miss everyone. Special thanks to Brian McLawhorn for being my road buddy. We enjoyed doing this here at Bull City Hoops and appreciate all of the fans that followed us over here. I’m forever grateful for all of my time in the industry.
