Just as it appeared the Duke coaching staff was done with the class of 2022, Jon Scheyer and company have brought in yet another piece to the puzzle.
This time it comes in the form of three-star 7-foot center Christian Reeves of Oak Hill Academy. The long, slender big man announced his decision just before the Blue Devils tipped off on Tuesday against South Carolina State.
Reeves, who previously played at Cannon School in Concord, N.C., transferred to Oak Hill last summer.
Since arriving at the Mouth of Wilson based prep school, Reeves saw interest in his abilities rise significantly with the likes of Creighton and Duke entering his recruitment.
Previously, his top two was listed as South Carolina and Minnesota, both of whom had spent considerable time recruiting the big man. Many believed Reeves would commit to South Carolina prior to the early signing period, but when he did not, some concern appeared to creep in for the Gamecocks.
And obviously for good reason, as the Blue Devils staff entered the picture and closed on the big man.
Reeves, who is averaging 8.9 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 2.4 blocks per game, is expected to be a four-year player in Durham. Though he is still needs development, he brings depth to the Blue Devils roster and projects as a player who can contribute in the coming years.
His season high for points came against Experience Academy in October when he posted 17 on 8-of-10 shooting. He recently recorded a 15 rebound game against Legacy Early College. He totaled six blocks against Providence Academy in November.
Reeves joins Dereck Lively II, Dariq Whitehead, Kyle Filipowski, Mark Mitchell and Jaden Schutt in the current class.
